Ron
Aubuchon is an acomplished painter, photographer, printmaker and potter.
His work has been shown in various arts and craft shows as well as in galleries
throughout the Midwest and in Hawaii. Though multi talented Ron's
first love in art is his pottery. His journey with clay began in
1969 while living in Hawaii. Under the guidance and tutelage of Dave
Huebner (Dakota Pottery) Ron fell in love with this wonderful media.
"The first time the clay swirled through my fingers I knew I wanted to become a potter".
During his Hawaii sojourn he studied with Dave Huebner, Jack White, Lis Burrows and others to develop a style and feel for the clay that is still represented in his work today. Upon completion of a degree in art from Southeast Missouri State University in 1976, he established The Stonehenge Pottery Company located in Farmington, MO. producing functional, utilitarian pieces in stoneware.
Retired and no longer producing functional pieces Rons work today is comprised of American Raku, horse hair pottery and contemporary pieces of Fine Raku Art. "Their beauty is their function"!
ARTIST STATEMENT
"I enjoy working
with and manipulating clay as it offers me a profound and symbolic reflection
of life. The involvement in the Raku process gives me a more intimate
relationship with each piece I produce. From its beginnings
as dry clay, shaping on the wheel, to pulling the red hot piece from
the kiln its a unique journey in the creative process. One of my
favorite sayings is; “If you walk your gonna get there….it just
takes a little bit longer!” Through time I've developed
and polished my clay skills to a point where I can explore in-depth forms,
textures and shapes incorporating them into my work".
