I've combined my love of both Raku and painting to produce a series of pieces with structural clarity that is offset by rich luminous colors ehnaced with tonal and textural harmony. Many are constructed using complicated assembladges of desparate components. My work is inspired by both ancient and contemporary architecture. The Victorian houses of the late 1800's, recently restored and dressed in vivid contrasting colors, have been a major source of influence as well. I consider this series of pieces to be a playful variation of those architectural elements.
All of my pieces have been Raku fired and have a simple crackle or copper glaze with much of the surface left unglazed. During the post firing the pieces are given a heavy reduction turning the unglazed areas jet black. Acrylics are then applied to the bare surfaces in layers to build up a textured, brightly colored surface. Each piece is a unique "one-of-a-kind" piece of Fine Raku Art!
"I sincerely hope you will enjoy viewing these pieces as much as I did making them"! - Ron Aubuchon
